AUSTIN, TEXAS — An arrest has been made in the death of 5-year-old Illianna Martinez, who died last month after a hit-and-run traffic wreck, police said Tuesday.
Police said Jorge A. Granados, 22, was arrested in the Louisiana city of Slidell on Tuesday after fleeing from the scene of the wreck. He will be extradited to Austin to stand trial, currently facing a charge of failure to stop and render aid, a second-degree felony.
The arrest comes after a collision that occurred on the morning of March 21 at the intersection of Palo Blanco Lane and Teri Road in South Austin. Illianna was mortally injured in the collision that occurred at around 7:40 a.m., clinging to life for nine days before succumbing to her wounds on March 30 at Dell Children's Medical Center just before 4:30 p.m.
