Police ID Pedestrian Killed By Car In South Austin
Tennie Ross, 63, was killed July 29 as he stood in a traffic lane along the 11600 block of Manchaca Road at around 10:36 p.m.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX β Police on Tuesday identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a car while he stood on a lane of traffic in South Austin last month.
The incident dates to July 29 along the 11600 block of Manchaca Road at around 10:36 p.m. According to a preliminary police investigation, a pedestrian was standing in the southbound lane of traffic along the 11600 block of Manchaca Road when he was struck by a 2005 white Chevrolet pickup truck traveling southbound in the same lane.
The pedestrian, 63-year-old Tennie Ross, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident was the third pedestrian death on Austin roads in as many days:
- On July 26 at around 8:40 a.m., Luis Cristobal Landeros, 50, was killed along the 1100 block of East Anderson Lane westbound service road after being struck by an out-of-control vehicle that careened onto the sidewalk.
- The next day, on July 27, David O'Beirne, 23, was walking westbound across the 500 block of North Interstate 35 when he was struck by a 2007 green Mack truck tractor that was traveling southbound in the outside lane. Police said the young man was struck down while trying to cross the highway.

The incident involving Ross represented the 38th fatal traffic crash of 2018, resulting in 39 fatalities this year, police noted. At this time in 2017, there were 32 fatal traffic crashes and 34 traffic fatalities.
