Austin Police ID Pedestrian Killed Along Interstate 35
David O'Beirne, 23, was killed by a truck while walking westbound across the 500 block of North Interstate 35 on July 31.

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Tuesday identified the pedestrian killed as he attempted to cross Interstate 35 last month.
According to a preliminary police investigation, David O'Beirne, 23, was walking westbound across the 500 block of North Interstate 35 when he was struck by a 2007 green Mack truck tractor that was traveling southbound in the outside lane on July 27 just before 5:30 a.m.
O'Beirne was pronounced dead at the scene. In their press advisory, police didn't indicate if the driver of the truck faces any charges in the incident.

The incident was one of two pedestrian deaths that occurred in as many days last month. On July 26 at around 8:40 a.m. along the 1100 block of East Anderson Lane westbound service road, Luis Cristobal Landeros, 50, was walking along a sidewalk before being struck by an out-of-control vehicle.
It was also the third such incident to occur in as many days. Tennie Ross, 63, was killed on July 29 along the 11600 block of Manchaca Road at around 10:36 p.m. as he stood in a lane of traffic, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, and police ask anyone with information regarding the incident to call detectives at (512) 974-3761. Those with information also can submit tips by downloading APD’s mobile app, Austin PD, for free on iPhone and Android.
The incident marked Austin’s 37th fatal traffic crash of 2018, resulting in 38 fatalities so far this year, police noted. At this time in 2017, officials added, there were 32 fatal traffic crashes and 34 traffic fatalities.
