Police release photos of shooting location last weekend in the hopes someone might help locate whoever killed Van Kevin White.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Police are seeking assistance from the public in locating a murder suspect connected to a fatal shooting that took place last weekend.

Van Kevin White was killed at 611 S. Congress on May 19 after being fatally shot by an unknown suspect. Detectives are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact them by calling the Homicide Tip Line at 512-477-3588 or Crime Stoppers at 512-472-TIPS or text "Tip 103" + your message to CRIMES or use the new Crime Stoppers App. People with information also can submit tips by downloading APD’s mobile app, Austin PD, for free on iPhone and Android.

The Austin Police Department released a photo of the area where White was shot in the hopes someone might remember seeing the suspect in that portion of the apartment complex where the incident occurred. The murder occurred in the parking lot behind the building at approximately 7:09 a.m., police said. This portion of the parking lot is bordered by The Crescent apartment building (127 E. Riverside) on the south side of building, and the City View at SoCo apartment building at 1005 S. Congress to the north.

"It is possible a resident in one of these buildings may have seen what occurred in the parking lot," police said in an advisory. "Based on information currently available, APD does not believe the public is at risk in relation to this incident," verbiage generally reserved based on a belief the victim and suspect knew each other.

Upon their arrival, police found an injured White with obvious trauma to his body. Austin-Travis County EMS also arrived and began resuscitation efforts, but the victim later died at University Medical Center Brackenridge.
