Health Officials Confirm TB At Kempner High School

This is the third instance since 2017 where TB has been found on a Fort Bend ISD campus.

SUGAR LAND, TX — Officials in Fort Bend ISD are investigating a potential case of tuberculosis at the Kempner High School campus.

On Monday, Fort Bend ISD officials sent a letter home to parents notifying them that the Fort Bend Clinical Health Services had informed the school about the potential case of TB on the campus, and that a small number of staff and students had been identified as possibly being exposed.

This is the third instance since 2017 where TB has been found on a Fort Bend ISD campus.

In February 2017, school district officials revealed that a staff member and a small group of students had been exposed to TB at Clements High School.

A second instances happened at George Bush High School in June, and required that about 600 students undergo testing for TB.

Some of symptoms of TB include:

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Lethargy
  • Night Sweats
  • Coughing
  • Chest Pain
  • Loss of Appetite
  • Unexplained weight loss

Testing for TB is conducted through either a blood test or skin test, and is a painless procedure.
