St. Joseph High School safety director graduates from advanced law enforcement training program (crossroadstoday.com) — St. Joseph High School in Victoria has strengthened campus safety as Dean of Students and safety director John Brouillette completed Texas' top school-based law enforcement master training. His new certification aligns the private school's security practices with local police standards and emphasizes mental health, bullying prevention, and emergency coordination to better protect students.
   

2. Victoria Council approves audit, hears park update (victoriaadvocate.com) — Victoria City Council approved its annual audit contract and adopted new rules for data centers and crypto mining that address noise, water use, and setbacks. Council members also heard plans for upgrades at MLK Park, including new basketball facilities, accessibility improvements, and added amenities, with the city now seeking community input before pursuing grant funding.
   

3. Victoria proposes $2M for I-69 development (victoriaadvocate.com) — Victoria's city manager is proposing to shift $2 million in the 2027 budget from Community Center funding to speed up I-69 corridor development along U.S. 59, without delaying the renovation. Council members also debated possible stormwater drainage fee exemptions for churches and Victoria ISD facilities, with decisions on both the budget and fee still pending public hearings.
   

4. Blue Energy and GE Vernova Hitachi sign deal to advance 2.5 GW gas-plus-nuclear plant in Victoria, Texas (energiesmedia.com) — A planned 2.5 GW gas-plus-nuclear power plant in Victoria just moved into a new development phase after Blue Energy and GE Vernova Hitachi signed an engineering and licensing agreement. The project would bring gas turbines online by 2030 and small modular reactors by 2032, potentially making Victoria a key hub for powering data centers and regional growth.
   

5. Texas A&M University-Victoria Freshmen Move In Ahead of Fall Semester (crossroadstoday.com) — Freshmen are moving into Texas A&M University-Victoria residence halls this week, kicking off the fall semester and bringing new students and families into town. Volunteers and staff helped with unloading and settling in, while officials urged students to prepare for South Texas' unpredictable August heat and storms as they transition into campus life.
