Waco's Common Grounds coffee shop is for sale, and customers hope the culture stays (kxxv.com) — One of Waco's best-known hangouts, Common Grounds coffee shop, is up for sale, and longtime customers hope a new owner preserves its Baylor ties and community feel. The business, started in 1994 and now with four McLennan County locations, is listed for $2–3 million, with buyers asked about their connection to Baylor and the wider Waco community.
   

2. Waco to break ground on first phase of downtown redevelopment project (kcentv.com) — Waco is about to kick off a massive downtown redevelopment along the Brazos River, with a public groundbreaking for the Barron's Branch phase on Sept. 24 at University Parks and Jefferson. The project will add 19 acres of development space, a signature public park, trails, plazas, and an entertainment pavilion, with public amenities expected to open by late 2028.
   

3. Waco man seeks probation in theft of more than $280,000 worth of copper from former employer (kwtx.com) — A Waco electrician has pleaded guilty to stealing 91,000 pounds of copper from local manufacturer Van Tran Transformers over five years and is asking for 10 years of probation instead of prison. A Waco judge ordered a presentence investigation before deciding whether to accept the plea deal, which would require more than $280,000 in restitution payments.
   

4. Rising diesel prices in Waco could mean higher costs at restaurants in the future (kxxv.com) — Diesel prices have climbed to about $6 a gallon in Waco, and local restaurant owners warn those costs could soon show up on your menu and grocery bills. With every step of the supply chain paying more for fuel, owners say they may eventually have to raise prices as customers' disposable income shrinks.
   

5. Game of the Week: La Vega beats University 33-7 in first meeting since 2011 (fox44news.com) — La Vega dominated crosstown rival University 33–7 at Waco ISD Stadium, their first meeting since 2011, to stay unbeaten at 4–0. University dropped to 2–2, while La Vega's defense continued its strong start, and the Pirates now turn to another Waco showdown when they host Waco High on Sept. 25.
