After Treadmill Recall, Peloton Under Investigation By Feds

Peloton issued a recall on its Tread and Tread+ products after the company received multiple reports of kids being pulled under the machine.

WASHINGTON, DC — Exercise equipment company Peloton is under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission following a spring recall of its Tread and Tread+ treadmills.

Peloton recalled the treadmills in May following a Consumer Products Safety Commission request to do so. Peloton initially resisted, but did issue a recall after the commission cited the death of one child and 70 other injuries involving the treadmills.

In addition to the investigation, the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security also subpoenaed documents from the company related to how it reported those injuries,
