ACROSS AMERICA — A majority of Americans say they support religious exemptions for COVID-19 vaccine mandates, but many agree the exemptions are overused, according to a newly released survey.

About 51 percent of Americans support letting people opt out of vaccination requirements for religious reasons, the survey by the Public Religion Research Institute and the Interfaith Youth Core found. However, about 59 percent say that exemptions are used too much. Sixty percent also say there are no valid religious reasons to refuse vaccination.

The survey, conducted Oct. 18 through Nov. 9, analyzed responses from 5,700 people.
