Sebastian Gorka Resigns From Trump White House

WASHINGTON, DC — White House Deputy Assistant to the President Sebastian Gorka resigned his position Friday. Gorka's departure had been rumored as imminent ever since Stephen Bannon was fired last week.

While Patch and other outlets initially reported confirmation from administration officials that Gorka had resigned — as first reported by The Federalist — the White House later implied that he had been fired.

"Sebastian Gorka did not resign," a White House official said in a statement to reporters. "But I can confirm he no longer works at the White House."

Meanwhile, the resignation letter obtained by The Federalist was blistering.

"Given recent events, it is clear to me that forces that do not support the MAGA promise are ― for now ― ascendant within the White House," Gorka wrote in his letter, The Federalist reported. "As a result, the best and most effective way I can support you, Mr. President, is from outside the People’s House."

Gorka has been a lightning rod for criticism ever since he started because of controversial comments, such as calling Islam a violent religion.

He has also reportedly been associated with neo-Nazi groups in his native Hungary.

The Federalist says that in his letter, Gorka told the president he is not being well-served by some of his advisers.

"Regrettably, outside of yourself, the individuals who most embodied and represented the policies that will 'Make America Great Again,' have been internally countered, systematically removed, or undermined in recent months," it says he wrote. "This was made patently obvious as I read the text of your speech on Afghanistan this week.

"The fact that those who drafted and approved the speech removed any mention of Radical Islam or radical Islamic terrorism proves that a crucial element of your presidential campaign has been lost."

Despite his title, it was never clear what Gorka's exact responsibilities were beyond appearing on television to defend the president, one official told Patch.
