Authors Tonnye Fletcher, Jen Fier Jasinski, and Alicia Meyers lead an interactive musical event for childrenWaltz over to Oakton Library for a family-friendly event featuring local writers and musicians!

Excellent for kids ages 4 to 10, this event offers a peek at three new picture books exploring the connection between music and emotion: Music Plants Hope by Tonnye Fletcher, My Violin by Jen Fier Jasinski, and Tic-Errific Me! by Alicia Meyers. All the authors will be on hand for a discussion and signing, and Bards Alley will have copies of their books available for purchase.

Attendees can also learn about the inner workings of instruments, practice relaxation techniques, and exercise their creativity through games and crafts. You're sure to leave applauding and asking for an encore!

Tonnye shares an old Victorian farmhouse with her husband, Shane, and their cats.Jen Fier Jasinski spent much of her childhood reading books and imagining new worlds. Unwilling to let go of Story Time, she grew up to become a teacher, mother, and author. Now Jen writes stories with elements of humor, heart, and above all, play. She is the author of Sidewalk Chalk,&nbsp;My Piano,&nbsp;My Violin&nbsp;and&nbsp;Because of You, I’m a Sister.&nbsp;My Piano&nbsp;earned a starred review from School Library Journal.Alicia Meyers is an elementary school teacher in Washington, DC, who was diagnosed with Tourette syndrome at a young age. As a neurodiverse author and teacher, she hopes to encourage those with TS to embrace their tics as part of who they uniquely are. In addition to&nbsp;Tic-Errific Me, Alicia is the author of&nbsp;The A-to-Z Teaching Toolkit for Early Childhood and Elementary Educators. She also writes humorous picture books, early chapter books, and is currently working on an educational resource book for teachers. When she’s not teaching or writing, she can be found singing, reading, traveling the world, and reminding others how totally tic-errific they are.

The author of A Rose Named Peace presents her latest picture book for young history buffsBards Alley is thrilled to welcome local author Barbara Carroll Roberts as she celebrates the release of her new nonfiction picture book When George Washington Bowed to the New Nation. Join us on Saturday, August 15 for a discussion and signing!

Out August 11, the book chronicles George Washington's military career, from his leadership during the eight-year Revolutionary War to his historic resignation in December 1983. It features vivid illustrations by artist Anne Yvonne Gilbert and is perfect for kids ages 8 to 13 as well as curious adults.
