Luther Jackson Middle School

Most travel soccer teams only open tryouts once per year in March/April. A local club (my son is part of) is opening a rare mid-year window for boys U9-U16 who missed fall tryouts, just moved to the area, or are ready to step up from rec.

Dates: November 3, 5, 10, 12

Boys U9-U13: 5:00-6:30pm

Boys U14-U16: 6:30-8:00pm

The club is led by a former Premier League pro, Sully Hamid. His son, Bill Hamid, was a US Men's National Team + DC United player. His daughter plays professionally in Sweden. Sully was also recently inducted into the Black Soccer Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
In my experience, as a parent, your kid won't get lost in the shuffle, like they will at a bigger club.

Alden Theatre

In a world defined by change and reinvention, Ballet Hispánico New York offers an evening at The McLean Community Center's Alden Theatre where movement becomes a form of resilience, reflection, and renewal. MUJERES: Women in Motion features three powerful choreographic voices—each exploring identity, conscience, and cultural inheritance through her own distinct lens. Together, they reveal the plural imagination of contemporary America: layered, rhythmic, and alive with meaning. Don't miss this mesmerizing performance on October 2 at 7 p.m. at The Alden Theatre!

City of Falls Church City Hall

The 2026 Falls Church Arts “Scenes in the City” Plein Air Festival, has been rescheduled due to storm activity. The outdoor festival will be held on Saturday, October 17 from 9 am-12 pm with a lively morning of outdoor painting, judging, announcement of the awards, and art sales.
The festival will take place on the grounds of Falls Church City Hall, 300 Park Avenue. Visitors can watch artists paint en plein air—French for “in the open air”—as they work quickly on location to capture changing light, atmosphere, and the character of Falls Church.
Artists have been busy capturing picturesque and historic scenes throughout Falls Church, including the W&OD Trail, local parks, Cherry Hill Farmhouse, Clare and Don’s Beach Shack, and the Falls Church Farmers Market.
More than forty artists will compete for cash prizes. Noted juror Glen Kessler will judge the paintings and announce the winners at noon. The 2025 festival awarded more than $5,000 in prizes.
