The Book Stall, in partnership with WBEZ, welcomes to the store Daniel Burke and Scott Detrow for a discussion featuring their new book, American Pope: Leo XIV's Road from the South Side of Chicago to Vatican City. From the co-host of NPR’s All Things Considered and NPR’s Senior Editor of Religion and Spirituality, a deeply reported, revelatory biography of Robert Prevost, now known as Pope Leo XIV, that offers rare and exciting new insight into the life and times of the man who would come to lead the Catholic Church. Enlightening, engrossing, and undeniably human,&nbsp;American Pope&nbsp;is the key to understanding one of the most consequential figures of our time.
Daniel Burke is the Senior Editor of Religion &amp; Spirituality at NPR. His writing on religion has won numerous awards, including from the Society for Features Journalism, the National Headliner Award Foundation, the Religion News Association, and the American Academy of Religion. Burke has made numerous appearances on CNN and NPR, and his work has been published in dozens of outlets, including&nbsp;The New York Times&nbsp;and&nbsp;The Washington Post. He holds degrees in religion from Georgetown University and Columbia University.
Scott Detrow&nbsp;cohosts NPR's&nbsp;All Things Considered, which he broadcast from St. Peter's Square during the conclave that elected Pope Leo XIV. He previously worked as NPR's White House correspondent, among other beats, and hosted&nbsp;The&nbsp;NPR Politics Podcast.&nbsp;Scott is a graduate of Fordham University and the University of Pennsylvania, and lives in Washington, D.C.

The Other Side of the River&nbsp;received The Chicago Tribune’s&nbsp;Heartland Prize for Nonfiction. Alex’s work has regularly appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine&nbsp;and on This American Life.&nbsp;His honors include two Peabodys, a George Polk Award, the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award and the Harold Washington Literary Award. The American Academy of Arts and Letters honored him for his books and journalism which “illuminate astonishing national inequities through the lens of individual experience.” &nbsp;

Michael Druzinsky grew up in Chicago and is the composer-in-residence for the Avant Symphony Orchestra (formerly the Oistrakh Symphony of Chicago) which makes its home at DePaul University, since 2011. This orchestra, led by Mina Zikri, regularly performs his works, most recently a waltz from his Suite for Strings in June. Michael also occasionally accompanies jazz singer Bonnie Watts.

In this impactful, riveting memoir, Julianna writes of her very public and painful split from both the church and her marriage and the books she read that inspired her to reclaim her life as an autonomous, independent woman on a path to self-discovery and purpose. Ms. Glasse will be in-conversation with author Hannah Pittard.&nbsp;
Julianna Glasse is a former Christian pop star and the founder and CEO of This Is What Happens When Women Read, a global organization dedicated to the liberation of women through education and safe community. Hannah Pittard is the author of six books, including the memoir We Are Too Many and the novel If You Love It, Let It Kill You. She is a winner of the Amanda Davis Highwire Fiction Award, a MacDowell fellow (‘12, ‘23, ‘25), and the Guy M. Davenport Professor in English at the University of Kentucky. She lives with her boyfriend and stepdaughter in Lexington. Much of her family lives nearby.&nbsp;
