🌱 2 Dead After Garbage Truck Collision+ New Temple Square Looks

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Salt Lake City.

Happy Saturday, neighbors! Here's everything you need to know going on in town today.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny. High: 80 Low: 56.

Here are the top three stories in Salt Lake City today:

  1. Police are investigating a crash in Salt Lake City involving a garbage truck that left two people dead. The crash happened on South Redwood Road in the city's Glendale neighborhood, near Redwood Depot Lane, police tweeted around 8 a.m. Thursday. The accident shut down roads for several hours for emergency vehicles, and the identities of the deceased have not been released. (ABC4.com)
  2. Police pulled over a 14-year-old driver who was going the wrong way in a stolen minivan in downtown Salt Lake City Friday morning. Although police did say that despite plentiful signage, it's pretty common to see cars turn and head the wrong way on 500 South, a one-way street downtown. (FOX 13 News Utah)
  3. The iconic downtown temple in Salt Lake belonging to the Utah-based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been undergoing a seismic retrofit, and a major renovation of the grounds around the temple has been underway since January 2020. While the anticipated timeline has been extended from 4 to 5 years, the church has released a new glimpse of what Temple Square will look like after the renovation. It also announced in a press release that the public walkway from North Temple to South Temple that used to be Main Street but is now part of the grounds of Temple Square, will be closed for its own renovation through fall of 2023.
