Go Global During International Education Week At University Of Utah Through November 15-19

International Education Week—Nov. 15–19, 2021—is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. See the full schedule of events here and below.

This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education invites universities to join in the promotion of programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to learning experiences in the U.S.

Despite pandemic restrictions, our campus community has found creative ways to support international education over the past 20 months. The week offers a wide variety of events—from cooking classes to advising sessions to panel discussions–and demonstrates the diversity of ways students can engage in global learning across campus.

Monday, Nov. 15 | 12:30-2:30 p.m.
Kick off International Education Week with a lively outdoor performance of traditional Peruvian culture.

Monday, Nov. 15 thru Nov. 18
Filméxico 2021 lineup will feature prominent works by Afro Mexican and Indigenous filmmakers, as well as seasoned, new and local talent.

Monday, Nov. 15 | 7 p.m.
Speakers: Abelardo de la Cruz and Diana Magaloni Kerpel (en Español) The life of the pre-Hispanic Nahuatl people was painstakingly documented by Fray Bernardino de Sahagún along with local scribes, grammatists and painters.

FLAS Fellowships are federally funded awards offered through the University of Utah’s Asia Center or Center for Latin America.

Monday, Nov. 15 | 11 a.m–12 p.m.
Join Learning Abroad and Jeffrey Cary, Outreach & Recruitment Manager at the Institute of International Education for the Boren Awards, to learn more about the Boren Awards scholarships and fellowships (up to $25,000). During this webinar, we will go over eligibility criteria, the application processes, and tips for creating a strong submission.

Tuesday, Nov. 16 | 5:30-7 p.m.
The Global Public Health program will host a Learning Abroad Alumni Panel, where our Alumni will share incredible stories about their experience abroad.

Tuesday, Nov. 16 | 12–1 p.m.
Join the Office for Global Engagement for a lecture and mini-concert by Matthew Stevens, Project Coordinator for the Office for Global Engagement. Matthew’s experience studying in Japan impacted his life greatly. He is an accomplished musician and will share his love of Japanese flute with attendees.

Wednesday, Nov. 17 | 4:30–6:30 p.m.
This year Going Global has gone virtual! We have a great group of panelists and networkers with experience in many different fields, including Health, Government, Tourism, Law, and Business.

Wednesday, Nov. 17 | 5–6 p.m.
You’re invited to attend & participate (optional) in a 1-hour cooking activity where our chefs will cook an Indian dish.

Thursday, Nov. 18 | 12–1 p.m.
Eccles Global Learning Abroad will host keynote speaker Aaron Sherinian, VP of Global Communications and Transformation at Phillip Morris International.

Thursday, Nov. 18 | 6–9:30 p.m.
Join Learning Abroad for a screening of Minari to explore the intersections of Korean and American culture and learn more about the U Asia Campus in Incheon, South Korea. This Academy Award-nominated film’s director, Isaac Chung, is a U of U alum and former U Asia Campus faculty.

Dustin Schwindt, U Asia Campus Professor of Film & Media Arts, will introduce the film. Light refreshments provided. Admission is free, but registration is required.

The U campus community is invited to join international student organizations for a special showcase and celebration of global cultures.
