Here are the top 4 stories today in Salt Lake City:
- SLC Police responded to a call in Rose Park where a man allegedly fired a weapon and barricaded himself in a house. After an hours-long standoff, the 40-year-old man—whose name won't be released until he's booked into jail — was taken into custody by police. (ABC 4)
- In another disturbing development, a 39-year-old man in Poplar Grove was also taken by police after an officer responded to a call and arrived at his residence where he found a woman whom he kept prisoner there and whom he had threatened and tortured for weeks. - It's been almost exactly a year since COVID cases in Utah exceeded 3,000 in one day. To be more precise, a stunning 3,303 new Utah COVID cases were reported in the Beehive State last Wednesday. Holiday gatherings and breakthrough infections of Omicron —t he reportedly more contagious variant — are some of the key reasons given as contributors to the grim milestone. (KSL.com)
- The local urban planning watchdog, Building Salt Lake brings critical context, history, and proper stoke for an up-and-coming sub neighborhood referred to as Central 9th nestled between Downtown and Ballpark. As the area grows in popularity, developers are busy requesting zoning changes, and submitting development plans all while more businesses, housing, and much-touted additions to the neighborhood, like Spy Hop, are coming online.
