📰 News we're reading

• Teenage e-bike rider dressed in black runs red lights at night (vermontdailychronicle.com) — Residents are raising alarms after a teen on a high-powered electric motorcycle reportedly sped through Burlington streets at night without lights or a helmet, running red lights and stop signs. The account comes amid several recent serious crashes and confrontations involving e-bikes, scooters, and bikes in Burlington, intensifying debate over how these faster electric vehicles should be regulated on city streets and paths.

• Iran war fuels uncertainty over Vermont heating costs (wcax.com) — Burlington-based reporters are warning that the war in Iran is already driving up heating fuel prices, making it harder for Vermonters to lock in affordable winter rates. Experts say recent price swings and Vermont's older, drafty housing stock are pushing more residents toward weatherization, heat pumps, and other alternatives, with Efficiency Vermont rebates playing a growing role.

• Vermont Congressional Delegation Calls on USPS to Address Persistent Shortfalls in Serving Vermonters (house.gov) — Vermont's congressional delegation, speaking from Burlington, is pressing USPS to fix severe mail delays that have left some South Burlington and Chittenden County residents with only sporadic delivery and late prescriptions. Their letter demands detailed answers on staffing shortages, on-time delivery rates, ballot handling, and how the postal service will restore reliable six-day service across Vermont.
