• Vermont school district merger committee groupings finalized (reformer.com) — Springfield School District has been grouped with nearby districts in a Southeast Act 170 merger study committee, launching a multi-year look at possible governance changes. Local representatives must hold their first meeting by Oct. 15, with final recommendations due in 2027 and potential community votes in 2028. Officials emphasize community input and local voter control over any final merger decisions.
   

• VSP BCI Troop B East - Westminster / Death investigation involving inmate (blogspot.com) — An inmate died Sunday morning after a medical emergency at Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield, where Vermont State Police say the death currently appears non-suspicious. Corrections staff attempted life-saving measures before he was pronounced dead, and an autopsy has been completed, with toxicology results still pending. Investigators say they will release more information when it becomes available.
