ARLINGTON, VA — Two District women are facing malicious wounding by mob charges after an argument with an acquaintance got physical early Friday morning outside a building in Pentagon City, according to authorities.

Officers responded just before 1 a.m. to investigate the report of an assault in the the 1100 block of Army Navy Drive, according to police. They determine that two women sitting in the front seat of a vehicle began arguing with someone they knew who was standing outside their vehicle.

"The suspects then exited the vehicle and allegedly assaulted the victim," according to the incident report. "The suspects stopped the attack when a witness exited the building to check on the victim. The victim sustained serious, non-life threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital."

The two suspects, identified as 24-year-old Eryn Hughes and 23-year-old Damaiya James, both of Washington, D.C., were arrested and charged with malicious wounding by mob, according to police.

During the investigation, the officers found an open alcohol container on the driver's side of the suspect vehicle. James was additionally charged with driving under the influence and breath test refusal, according to police. While Hughes was released on her own recognizance, James was released with a summons.

Both women are due to be arraigned at 2 p.m. on Monday in Arlington General District Court, according to court records. No preliminary hearing has been scheduled.

The malicious wounding by mob chargs is considered a Class 3 felony. If convicted on this charge, Hughes and James each face a mandatory minimum of five years up to a maximum of 20 years in prison, as well as a potential finue of up to $100,000, under the Virginia Code.
