Reagan National Airport opened two new security checkpoint buildings Tuesday as part of $1 billion capital improvement project.

ARLINGTON, VA — Travelers departing from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) Tuesday morning encountered two new security checkpoint buildings, designed to ease passenger flow through the airport and provide greater access to dining and retail facilities.
The new buildings are the latest installment of Project Journey, a $1 billion capital improvement project to create a better experience for ticketed passengers at at the airport. As part of the same project, DCA cut the ribbon in April on a new 14-gate concourse to service American Airlines customers. Perviously, American passengers departed out of Gate 35X.
At 4 a.m. on Tuesday, traveler flying out of DCA with Alaska, American, Delta, JetBlue and United began using the new security screening checkpoints. Once they had been screened, they were then able to move between Gates 10 and 59 without having to be re-screened.
