Aggravated Malicious Wounding Charge Filed In North Stuart Street Stabbing: Police

Arlington County police arrested a man they say stabbed another man inside a home in Ballston on Wednesday night.

ARLINGTON, VA — An Arlington man was charged with aggravated malicious wounding after police responded to a reported stabbing in Ballston on Wednesday night.

Officers were dispatched around 8:30 p.m. to the 1100 block of North Stuart Street to investigate the report of a stabbing. When officers arrived, it was determined that a male victim and a male suspect, who are known to each other, were inside a residence when they became involved in a verbal dispute. Police reported that the suspect then brandished a knife and struck the victim with it several times.

The victim left the home, ran from the scene and called police, according to ACPD. Responding officers found the victim at North Stuart Street and 11th Street North suffering from lacerations and immediately rendered aid until medics arrived. The victim was then transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, police reported.

Police said the suspect initially fled the scene on foot. Officers established a perimeter and conducted a canvass of the area, but the search did not locate him, according to police.

The suspect later turned himself in at the Office of the Magistrate, where officers took him into custody without incident, according to ACPD.

The police report did not provide additional details about the victim, the residence or what led to the dispute.

Kelly Holmes, 53, of Arlington was arrested and charged with aggravated malicious wounding. He was held without bond.

On Thursday morning, Holmes was arraigned in Arlington General District Court and a bond hearing was set for 9 a.m. on Friday, according to court records. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for 11:3o a.m. on June 11.

The aggravated malicious wounding charge is a Class 2 felony. If Holmes is found guilty of this charge, he faces a potential 20-year to life prison sentence and a maximum fine of $100,000, under the Virginia Code.
