Amazon May Cause Major Upheaval On 23rd Street: Report

Amazon's arrival reportedly has accelerated a plan to dramatically change the 23rd Street area.

ARLINGTON, VA -- As Crystal City has grown as a business destination over the years, the 23rd Street area has been the place where everyone heads to after work to grab a drink or bite to eat. That strip may be about to undergo some major changes now that Amazon has chosen Crystal City as its new headquarters.

The Washington Business Journal reports that a restaurant group wants to build an open-air park and plaza on the site of a Greek restaurant and parking lot behind some of those 23rd Street eateries.

It would also have "artist spaces" below it that would face onto 22nd Street, as well as some subsidized artist housing on a neighboring parcel, the report notes.

The group's vision is to help transform Crystal City from an office park to a place that people actually want to hang out at.
