Victim Followed Robbery Suspect To Pentagon City Metro, Police Say

ARLINGTON, VA — A 40-year-old Alexandria man was arrested Saturday night after a robbery investigation near the Pentagon City Metro station, according to Arlington County police.

Officers were dispatched just after 10 p.m. to the Pentagon City Metro station for a report of a fight. Investigators determined the victim had been in the 900 block of Army Navy Drive when a man approached him and asked for cash.

When the victim declined, the man allegedly took cash that had fallen from the victim’s bag and struck the victim before running away, police said. The victim followed the man into the Pentagon City Metro station.

Police said the suspect was taken into custody after officers arrived.

Mitchell Harris, 40, of Alexandria, was arrested and charged with robbery, according to police.

Harris was arraigned Monday morning in Arlington General District Court and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 6, according to court records.

The robbery charge is a Class 5 felony. If convicted on the robbery charge, which is a Class 5 felony, Harris faces a potential sentence of one to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $2,500, under the Code of Virginia.

At the court's discretion, the charge could be dropped down to a misdemeanor, with Harris receiving a possible sentence of up to 12 months in jail and/or a fine up to $2,500, under Virginia law.
