ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County police are investigating an armed carjacking that occurred Tuesday afternoon and ended hours later with the recovery of the stolen vehicle following a pursuit in Washington, D.C.
Police said officers responded at around 1 p.m. to the 4100 block of 18th Street North to investigate the report of a robbery.
According to investigators, a woman was sitting inside her parked vehicle when a man driving a pickup truck pulled alongside her, got out and approached the driver's side window.
Police said the suspect displayed a firearm and demanded the victim's vehicle. The woman got out of the vehicle, and the suspect drove away in it.
The victim was not injured during the incident.
Officers immediately broadcast a lookout for the stolen vehicle and searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.
Later Tuesday, authorities spotted the stolen vehicle traveling in Prince George's County, Maryland. With assistance from the U.S. Park Police, the vehicle was recovered after a pursuit that ended in a crash in Washington, D.C., according to Arlington police.
The driver was taken into custody following the crash.
Police have not released the suspect's identity or any charges, and the investigation remains ongoing.
