Anti-LGBTQ+ Bigotry Behind Drag Show Bomb Threat Decried By Board
Arlington County leaders express ongoing support for the LGBTQ+ community following bomb threat made against story time drag performance.

ARLINGTON, VA — Members of the Arlington County Board decried the anti-LGBTQ+ bigotry behind a bomb threat made last Saturday against Freddie's Beach Bar.
About an hour before the start of the "Family Fun Story Time" featuring drag performer Tara Hoot, owner Freddie Lutz called police after he received the threat, according to ARLNow.
"At approximately 11:15 a.m. on April 6, police were dispatched to the report of a bomb threat emailed to a business,” ACPD spokeswoman Ashley Savage told ARLnow. “Responding officers made contact with the occupants, conducted a sweep of the business and no evidence of a crime was located. The investigation is ongoing.”

"Arlington County and the County Board unequivocally support the LGBTQ+ community," the county board said, in a statement released on Tuesday. "ACPD's swift response ensured the safety of patrons and staff, and the fortitude of Freddie and drag queen Tara Hoot allowed the show to go on. With protests, threats, and violence targeting the LGBTQ+ community — and drag shows in particular – on the rise across the country, expressions of hatred and bigotry have absolutely no place in our community, and the Arlington County Board condemns these threats of violence and attempted intimidation of our community.
"Freddie’s represents the very best of Arlington’s values as an establishment that prides itself on creating a safe and welcoming space for the LGBTQ+ community and allies by centering love over hate, understanding over unacceptance, and empathy over bigotry.
"The Board, like Freddie’s, remains committed to ensuring Arlington remains a safe, welcoming, and inclusive place for our LGBTQ+ community."
