Arlington Bishop Says Area Should Welcome Refugees
Michael F. Burbidge, the newly appointed Bishop of Arlington, said in a statement that Catholics should contact their elected officials.

ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington's bishop has issued a statement in the wake of President Trump's decision to ban immigrants from Muslim nations, saying the area should continue to welcome refugees and urging Catholics to reach out to elected officials about the issue.
Michael F. Burbidge, the newly appointed Bishop of Arlington, said in a statement that he echoed the comments of Bishop Joe Vasquez, Chair of the Committee of Migration and Bishop of the Diocese of Austin, who "highlighted our nation’s long and proud tradition of welcoming newcomers and refugees in a humane manner, even as we have pursued a strong vetting system to ensure our safety and security."
Burbidge added that he encouraged Catholics to contact elected officials to voice their concerns and make themselves heard.
