ARLINGTON, VA — The Arlington County Board has unanimously approved a $6.6 million contract to demolish the elevated South Clark Street roadway in Crystal City, and work will begin this fall.
Officials want to remove the elevated roadway, which is located between 12th and 20th Streets South, to "improve the street network and create more development space in Crystal City," according to a statement from the Board.
"After the roadway and its overhead bridges, abutments and retaining walls are removed new retaining walls, grass pavers and stormwater facilities, landscaping, traffic signals at 20th Street South and Route 1 will be added," the statement adds. "Demolition is anticipated to start in fall 2017, with completion scheduled for late summer 2019."
