ARLINGTON, VA — Two Arlington-based groups will receive a total of $7 million in federal funding to help provide affordable housing and services to low-income people, U.S. Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine of Virginia announced Thursday.
The funds are administered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund through the department’s Capital Magnet Fund.
Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing Inc. will receive $5 million from the fund and Arlington-based AHC Inc. will receive $2 million.

“Affordable, safe housing should be available to every Virginian,” the senators said in a statement Thursday. “This funding will allow Virginia organizations to continue their crucial work of securing housing for those in need.”
Founded in 1989, APAH serves more than 4,000 people and families who live in the partnership's 18 properties in Arlington County and across the D.C. area. In 2016, APAH was chosen as one of the 40 recipients of the Citi Foundation’s Community Progress Makers Fund.

Known initially as the Arlington Housing Corp., AHC has evolved from a grassroots group providing a home improvement program to low- and moderate-income homeowners in Arlington to a full-service organization whose low- and mixed-income housing communities serve Alexandria, Falls Church and Fairfax County and Montgomery County and the Baltimore area in Maryland.
Over the years, AHC has developed more than 50 properties that provide over 7,500 affordable homes.
The $7 million in funding comes in addition to the $114.7 million in federal funding that Virginia will receive from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to increase affordable housing across the state.
