Arlington Kickstarter Project Raises $100K and Counting

The built-in Damascus knife with attached cutting board aims to make chopping a breeze.

ARLINGTON, VA — The Kickstarter for an Arlington-based product called the "built-in Damascus knife" has raised more than $100,000, quadrupling its goal with more than two weeks still to go in the funding campaign.

The owner of the project, Spéciale, is based in McLean but the project's location is listed as Arlington. The product would feature a 17-inch Damascus knife anchored to a Walnut cutting board. The knife is capable of swinging around, making chopping a lot easier.

As of Tuesday, the project had 540 backers and $107,682 pledged out of a goal of $25,000. The campaign will end Oct. 18.

"Many chefs and restaurant owners will tell you that presentation of food is just as important as the taste of the food," according to the campaign's website. "They will also advice you that having the right tools in the kitchen is essential for achieving the best results.

"These two facts combined have led to the development of a unique knife and cutting board solution that allows for easy cutting, chopping, slicing, dicing, and even peeling of delicious food such as cheeses, fruit, vegetables, breads, meats, and more while presenting them in an appealing manner," it adds.
