Arlington Man Faces 2 Felonies After Police Say He Tried To Disarm Officer

Anthony Johnson Jr. was charged with two felonies and three misdemeanors after a trespassing call, police said.

ARLINGTON, VA — A man was charged with two felonies after police said he tried to disarm an officer during a trespassing call Sunday morning in Arlington.

Officers were called around 8:38 a.m. to the 1800 block of North Kent Street for a report of trespassing, according to Arlington County police.

Police said Anthony Bernard Johnson Jr., 27, was in a parking garage from which he had previously been banned. When officers tried to take him into custody, police said Johnson became combative and attempted to disarm an officer.

Additional officers responded and helped take Johnson into custody, police said. He remained combative and noncompliant during the booking process, according to police.

Johnson, who police said was an Arlington resident, was charged with disarming a law enforcement officer of a stun gun, destruction of property, trespassing after being forbidden, obstruction and resisting without force, and public intoxication, according to online court records.

Johnson was arraigned in Arlington County General District Court on Tuesday and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 11, according to court records.

The disarming charge and destruction of property charge are Class 6 felonies. If convicted on either of these charges, Johnson could be sentenced to one to five years in prison and fined up to $2,500, under the Code of Virginia. The remaining charges are misdemeanors.

Johnson was held without bond, according to police.
