Arlington Named the Best City in the United States to Retire

Arlington beat out its neighbor Alexandria for the top spot among nearly 200 U.S. cities.

Arlington has been topping a lot of best-of lists lately, and you can add another list to that list: the city is apparently the best place in the country to retire, according to a site that ranked nearly 200 U.S. cities.

Bankrate.com rated all of the cities on eight criteria: cost of living, crime, well-being, walkability, taxes, health care, weather and culture.

Arlington topped the list, with next-door neighbor Alexandria right behind at No. 2. Silver Spring, Md. was No. 4 on the list. The only non-DMV city to crack the top four was Nashville suburb Franklin, Tenn. at No. 3.

Not surprisingly, the only category in which Arlington was dinged was in cost of living which, like Alexandria's, was rated at "very high."

The weather was also rated as average, but other than that, it's high marks across the board for Arlington: low crime, great well-being, great walkability, low taxes, great health care and great culture.

Washington, D.C. scored fairly well, coming in at No. 3. It received low marks for crime and taxes.
