Arlington Resident Destroys Marathon Record Over 7 Continents

The super-marathoner also reportedly ran an extra 17 miles just so he could hit the 200-mile mark for the week.

ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington resident and world-famous marathoner Michael Wardian has just accomplished one of the most incredible feats possible as a runner: he's run seven marathons in seven continents in seven days, and he blew the record to pieces in the process.

The 42-year-old runner ran every single marathon under 2:55, even the one in Antarctica where wind chills dipped below minus-30 degrees.

Wardian finished first in every single one of the races, and then decided to run another 17 miles just so he could get to an even 200 miles for the week, according to ARLnow.com.

A total of 30 runners competed in the grueling World Marathon Challenge, starting in Antarctica and continuing through Chile, Miami, Madrid, Morocco, Dubai and finally Australia, all in just a week.

Wardian's average of 2:45 for each marathon shattered the previous record of 3:32 by an astonishing 47 minutes, although it is also only the third time the challenge has been held and not many people have taken up the intense whirlwind tour, which is fairly expensive to get into as well.
