Arlington Residents Really, Really Don't Like Donald Trump

"Super Tuesday" voting results show that they like Ted Cruz even less, and aren't that impressed with Bernie Sanders either.

Donald Trump cruised to a dominant "Super Tuesday" victory yesterday, winning seven of 11 states that were up for grabs, including Virginia -- but he certainly isn't well-liked here in Arlington County.

With just 16.8 percent of the vote -- a distant third behind Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (49.7 percent) and Ohio Gov. John Kasich (22.6 percent) -- Trump had a worse performance in Arlington than in any of Virginia's 94 other counties. Only the nearby independent city of Falls Church was less enthusiastic about Trump, giving him 15.7 percent of about 1,500 votes in the Republican primary.

Not that The Donald is likely to lose any sleep over this -- his strong performance in Virginia's rural counties buoyed him to a big win over Rubio statewide, 34.7 percent to 31.9 percent.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz performed even more poorly, capturing just 7.9 percent of the vote in the county. He finished third in the state with 16.9 percent of the vote.

Kasich's strong showing in Arlington County may be partially attributed to the fact that he had a rally here in Arlington on Super Tuesday. He ultimately finished fourth in Virginia with 9.4 percent of the vote, while Ben Carson was last with 5.9 percent.

Meanwhile, on the Democratic side, Arlington County clearly isn't "Feeling the Bern," with Bernie Sanders capturing just 32.8 percent of the vote compared to Hillary Clinton's 66.9 percent, which reflected his gap statewide as Clinton cruised to an easy win.
