Arlington Restaurant Makes 'Best DC Area Dishes' List

An Arlington restaurant has one of 2017's best dishes in the DC area, according to The Washington Post.

ARLINGTON, VA —An Arlington restaurant made The Washington Post's "40 Most Essential DC Restaurant Dishes of 2017."

Queen Amannisa in Crystal City made the list for their Big Plate Chicken dish, also known as "Daiping." Queen Amannisa serves Uyghur food, which is relatively new in the DC area. The Big Plate Chicken meal consists of an enormous platter of bone-in-bird, covered in peppery sauce and topped with potatoes and vegetables. The chicken sits on top of made-to-order noodles and is a staple in Uyghur cuisine.

The Post determined the top dishes by polling readers, industry insiders and its own staff. It received over 400 submissions and narrowed it down through a taste test. Staff explain, "We curated a selection that could cater to meat-eaters and vegetarians, sweets lovers and fried-food fans, suburban dwellers and urbanites without cars."

Many Yelp reviewers have posted about the dish, saying:

  • "The flavor of the Big Plate Chicken sauce was phenomenal. And because of the, you guessed it, big plate, you'll likely have sauce leftover. I took ours to go and I made a big pot of stir fry with it."
  • "The chicken in the 'Big Plate Chicken' was very tender and the sauce was very rich."
  • "My friends and I ordered the big plate chicken, dry fried noodles, and some vegetable dishes - the green beans and eggplant. The food was very much like homestyle cooking, not too complicated but delicious and comforting. Definitely a unique experience."
  • "The big plate chicken is just fantastic, if you order this dishm make sure to order more noodles! Their noodles is the best!"

You can visit Queen Amannisa at 320 23rd St S #150 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
