Arlington Woman Accused Of Breaking Into Home, Exposing Herself

ARLINGTON, VA — An Arlington woman who was already wanted by county police and the Arlington County Fire Marshal's Office was arrested Thursday night after authorities said she broke into an occupied home by smashing a glass door with a rock and exposed herself inside.

Katherine Claffey, 31, of Arlington, was arrested after officers responded around 11 p.m. Thursday to investigate the report of a burglary in the 4000 block of 23rd Street North, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

Police said Claffey forced her way into the residence by throwing a rock and shattering a glass door. A man who was inside the home saw a woman inside exposing herself before she ran into another room, according to police.

The resident called police, and responding officers found Claffey inside the home and took her into custody, police said.

Court Records Show Four Charges From Burglary

Claffey was charged with burglary, throwing a missile into an occupied dwelling, destruction of property and indecent exposure, according to police.

Arlington General District Court records filed Friday show four corresponding cases stemming from the Sept. 17 incident. The burglary charge is a felony under Virginia Code Section 18.2-91. Court records also list felony charges for destruction of property and maliciously throwing an object into an occupied building, along with a misdemeanor indecent exposure charge.

Police said investigators also determined Claffey had outstanding warrants from ACPD and the Arlington County Fire Marshal's Office.

Court records show two additional charges tied to alleged conduct on Sept. 15: misdemeanor destruction of property with intent involving less than $1,000 and calling or setting off an emergency alarm without cause. Both cases list Claffey's arrest date as Sept. 18.

The records also show Claffey had three cases stemming from a Jan. 12 incident. Two initially involved felony charges of assaulting a law enforcement or corrections officer. In one case, the charge was amended to misdemeanor assault and battery; the other remained listed as a felony in the court record reviewed Friday. A third case lists a misdemeanor assault and battery charge.

The January cases are scheduled for review hearings on Sept. 28.

For the new Sept. 17 cases, court records show Claffey appeared for arraignment Friday and that the cases were continued. Preliminary or adjudicatory hearings are scheduled for Oct. 26.

Police said Claffey was held without bond.
