Atilla's Restaurant on Columbia Pike, a long-time favorite place for Arlingtonians to get gyros and falafel sandwiches, is closing May 29.

ARLINGTON, VA — Atilla’s Restaurant on Columbia Pike, a long-time favorite place for Arlington residents to get gyros and falafel sandwiches, is closing on May 29.
After operating in the same location since the 1970s, Atilla’s is hoping to reopen in a new location, either in Arlington or Fairfax County, by September.
Ownership has a couple locations they are eyeing, but has yet to make a decision on where it will end up, the restaurant told Patch.

ARLnow first reported last month that Atilla’s and its grocery store at 2705 Columbia Pike were closing at the end of May. Developers are planning to tear down the building where Atilla’s is and replace it with a new apartment building called “The Elliot.”
The new building will be named after Elliott Burka, who managed the Fillmore Garden apartment complex behind the strip mall where Atilla’s is located, ARLnow reported.

Other businesses and organizations in the strip mall, including the Columbia Pike Partnership and the Black Heritage Museum of Arlington, also will be forced out.
Atilla’s serves Turkish food with a Greek influence, ARLnow noted. Other customer favorites on the menu include spinach pie, baba ghanoush, kebabs and hummus.
