Clarendon Welcomes Blue Mercury

Beauty, makeup and spa specialists Blue Mercury opened their latest store in Clarendon last week, making it their fifth store in the Washington metro region and first in Virginia.

Manager Kenza Basry told Patch that Blue Mercury is all about customer service.

"We offer high-quality products with a friendly staff," Basry said. "It's not as hectic as going to a department store, and we pick products for our clients based on what they need."

Barry and Marla Beck co-founded Blue Mercury in 1999, and all of the products in the store are Marla's favorites. The first Blue Mercury in 1999 and now they have 48 stores nationwide. 

Blue Mercury carries high-end brands that are usually found only in department stores. The makeup lines they carry include Bobbi Brown, Trish McEvoy, Laura Mercier and Nars (a few other locations carry Chanel as well). 

They also carry Revive, Bliss, Dennis Gross, Mario Badescu, Dermalogica, Bumble and Bumble, Kiehl's and many, many other beauty lines. 

Blue Mercury also has an in-house spa that offers waxing and facials. Basry described it as "your neighborhood spa."

Basry said three must-have items for skin care are:

• The Dennis Gross "Daily Face Peel" exfoliating pads
• Revive Gel Cleanser
• Darphin "Arovita C" face cream

And, the three must-have makeup items are:

• Nars Gloss "Larger Than Life"
• Nars Tinted Moisturizer 
• Laura Mercier's "Radiance Primer"
