Coast Guard Makes Dramatic Rescue at Arlington Memorial Bridge Sunday

Seven people were rescued after a boat started taking on water.

Seven people are OK after the Coast Guard came to their rescue as the 30-foot boat they were on started taking on water near the Arlington Memorial Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Coast Guard Sector Maryland–National Capital Region watchstanders were notified at around 1 p.m. that a boat was taking on water and needed their help, according to a Coast Guard statement.

Coast Guard Station Washington sent a 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew to rescue them. There were no injuries after the successful rescue.

"We put two crewmembers aboard when we got on scene," Petty Officer Christopher Page, the coxswain aboard the RB-S, said in the statement. "The owner was concerned because he couldn’t find the source of the water, and they had also lost one engine. We decided to take them on side-tow when we realized their anchor wasn’t holding, and they were quickly drifting to shoal water."
