On The Road

A crash was reported shortly after 7 a.m. on the eastbound side of I-66 at mile marker 61.7, between Route 123 and Nutley Street in Fairfax County. Two eastbound travel lanes were closed, but reopened around 7:30 a.m.

A disabled vehicle was reported at 7:12 a.m. on eastbound I-66 at mile marker 39.0, 1.2 miles west of US-15 Exit40 in Prince William County. One eastbound travel lane is closed.

At 7:30 a.m., a disabled vehicle was reported on the southbound side of I-95 at mile marker 74.6, 0.3 miles north of Eisenhower Ave. Exit174, in Fairfax County. No lanes are closed.

A downed tree was reported earlier Thursday morning on the inner loop of the Beltway before the Braddock Road exit. All lanes were blocked to clear the tree from I-495, diverting traffic onto the Express Lanes. All lanes are now open, but delays are possible, as of 7 a.m.

In Maryland, a disabled vehicle was reported at 6:59 a.m. on US-29 southbound at Tech Rd. The left lane is blocked.

Looking ahead, Old Dominion Drive will be closed to traffic between Balls Hill Road and Route 123 in McLean next Monday and Tuesday to replace stormwater pipes, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

On The Rails

Metro resumed normal service Wednesday after warning that riders should expect delays and plan for additional travel time. The delays were due to a technical issue that caused problems monitoring train movements, Metro said.

Normal service has resumed on the Yellow Line to Greenbelt after an earlier train malfunction at National Airport.

No delays were reported on VRE Thursday morning.

Weather

Get ready for a sweltering Thursday, with a high near 97 and heat index values as high as 105. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for D.C. and parts of Northern Virginia. The heat advisory runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast for Thursday night. On Friday, expect a high temperature of 91, with a better chance of thunderstorms.
