Federal Offices Open Wednesday: Metro Shutdown 2016

Federal employees can take unscheduled leave or telework due to Metro announcement trains will close all day Wednesday for safety check.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Metro will be closing all train service for more than 24 hours beginning at midnight Tuesday night to inspect the tracks after a fire Monday raised concerns.

The Office of Personnel Management announced that federal agencies will be open in the D.C. area.

Employees will have the option for unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework.

Metro made the announcement late Tuesday that safety checks would be required on 600 "jumper cables." Officials are trying to avoid a repeat of the deadly smoke incident at L'Enfant Plaza in January 2015.
