Fight In Ballston Parking Lot Leads To Assault And Battery Charge
A 44-year-old Maryland man was arrested after he punched another man during a fight in a Ballston parking lot on Tuesday, police say.
ARLINGTON, VA — A 44-year-old Maryland man is facing multiple charges, including assault and battery, in connection with a fight that occurred late Tuesday afternoon in Ballston.
An Arlington County Police officer responded around 4:02 p.m to the 900 block of N. Stafford Street, where two men were engaged in a brawl in a parking lot. After ordering the two to stop fighting, the officer attempted to separate them, but not before one of the men punched the other, according to police.
The officer deployed OC Spray and ordered the man who threw the punch to stop. The suspect then tried to approach the victim, but the officer was able to take him into custody, according to police.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had left a nearby business when the suspect walked up and started to assault him, according to police. During the altercation, the suspect pulled out a knife. The victim was treated at the scene by medics and the officer recovered a pocket knife.
The officer arrested Kermit Hutchins of Clinton, Maryland and charged him with attempted malicious wounding and assault and battery, according to the police report.
