Firebomb Possession Charges Filed Against 77-Year-Old Westover Man

Westover man arrested after explosive materials were removed from his home by ATF and Arlington fire investigators on Friday.

ARLINGTON, VA — A 77-year-old Arlington man is facing multiple counts, including manufacturing firebombs or explosive materials, according to the Arlington County Fire Department's Office of the Fire Marshal.

On Aug. 20, the fire marshal's office opened an investigation into a series of loud noises that residents of Belmont reported hearing along the Custis Trail, according to reports. Fire investigators identified 77-year-old Charles Peters as a person of interest in the case.

Working with federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives personnel, fire investigators executed a search warrant Friday morning on Peters' home in the Westover neighborhood, according to ARLNow.

Later, law enforcement officials in protective gear were seen removing items from the Fisher House Apartments at 5705 Washington Blvd., according to ARLNow's reporting.

Peters was arrested and charged with five counts of manufacturing, possession, use of firebombs or explosive materials or devices. He was then taken to the Arlington County Detention Center, where he was held without bond.
