Frugal Family: Mar 2-Mar 9

This week's handful of discounts, sales and super cheap things to do in the Arlington area.

March has arrived! Hallelujah. I almost didn't think we'd make it. Are you bursting at the seams like me? Here is this week's round-up of fun and frugal spring-themed things to take advantage of in our area, as well as some things to help keep you occupied until this new season blossoms into full effect.

Remember to share any other discounted goodies that you know about in the comments section below.

Foot Locker (Ballston Common Mall)
You still remember that resolution to get fit and stay healthy, right? Head to Foot Locker in Ballston Mall for their Spring Running Shoes sale this week, and snag yourself a pair of the (comfortable and also aesthetically pleasing) Reebok Zig Sonic for Men for only $99.99 ($74.99 for Big Kids), or a pair of ASICS Gel-Kayano Running Shoes (that received five stars) for just $109.99 (originally $139.99). Remember that selection varies store by store, so don't be heartbroken if you can't find that perfect running shoe in the store that was available online.

They've got small plates ($6-$12), big plates ($11-$21), two full bars, over 20 Irish whiskeys and over 40 scotches (!), a selection of craft beers on draft, and a wine list of around 100 to choose from (not to mention $4 glasses of wine at happy hour). They're open from 11am-2am daily.

$1 Movie Night at Arlington Cinema 'N Drafthouse
Just another manic Monday. Treat yourself and your little ones to a super cheap family night (it's 21+, but adults can bring children) at Arlington Cinema 'N Drafthouse where they have $1 Movie Nights every Monday and $2 Movie Nights every Tuesday! On March 7 they're playing The Green Hornet (@ 7:30 p.m.) and 127 Hours (@ 9:50 p.m.), and on March 8 they're playing Tron (@ 7:15 p.m.) and The Green Hornet (@ 9:50 p.m.).

Open Mic Night at IOTA
**Also frugal, but not family; it's 21+** Every Wednesday, IOTA Club and Cafe offers a FREE Open Mic Night with special guests Todd and James from 8pm - 12:30am. Todd and James go on at 9:30pm, and (if you're in the mood to make your musical debut) you can sign up at 7:30pm and 10:00pm to play/sing/strut your stuff/release those work woes my belting your favorite song and strumming on that super fly guitar. Good for a little mid-week hump-day date night with your spouse.

Good through: Until further notice.

Kid's Consignment Shop
Do your little kiddos need some new spring clothes? Head to one of the many Kids' Consignment Shops all around Northern Virginia and find some goodies you know they'll love.

This first one is a bit of a hike, but will be worth it when you get there. Classy Kid's Consigment (Prince William County Fairgrounds, 10624 Dumfries Rd, Manassas) will be giving 25% off their sale from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. this Friday, Mar 4; 50% off from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. this Saturday, March 5; and a "Dollar Dash" from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. this Sunday, March 6.

If Manassas is too far, try Fairfax. Next Saturday, March 12, check out Christ Church Children's Consignment Sale (8285 Glen Eagles Lane, Fairfax) from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
