Funeral Set For Arlington Police Corporal Who Responded To Pentagon On 9/11
Barry Foust's funeral will bring road closures Tuesday near Courthouse and Cherrydale Baptist Church.

ARLINGTON, VA — The funeral for Arlington County police Cpl. Barry Foust will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, at Cherrydale Baptist Church, police said. The church is at 3910 Lorcom Lane.
Arlington police announced on Monday that Foust had died Friday from 9/11-related cancer.
Foust was on patrol the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, at Walter Reed Drive and Columbia Pike when American Airlines Flight 77 struck the Pentagon, according to a release. He reported information about the incident over the radio, beginning Arlington County’s response to the attack.

Foust remained at the Pentagon site for the next week, collecting evidence and the remains of victims, police said. He was diagnosed in June 2025 with cancer related to the recovery efforts.
Before the service, a funeral procession will pass in front of the Arlington County Police Department at 1425 North Courthouse Road. Community members who want to pay their respects are asked to join police department members in lining North Courthouse Road by 10 a.m.

The procession is expected to pass the police station before 10:30 a.m. Rolling road closures will follow as the procession continues to Cherrydale Baptist Church, police said.
A ceremonial 21-gun salute by the Arlington County Honor Guard will take place at the end of the funeral service. Police said people near the church may hear gunfire but should know the salute is planned and coordinated, and there is no cause for concern.
Several roads near the police department will be closed from about 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, police said. The closures include the 1300 to 1500 blocks of North Courthouse Road and all streets feeding into Courthouse Road from those blocks, the 2000 block of Wilson Boulevard and the 2000 block of Clarendon Boulevard.

Traffic near Cherrydale Baptist Church also will be affected. Motorists are encouraged to use other routes.
Intermittent road closures are expected from about 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the 2200 to 2400 blocks of Military Road and the 3800 to 4000 blocks of Lorcom Lane, police said.
Parking will be restricted in the 3800 to 3900 blocks of Lorcom Lane. Motorists should watch for temporary “No Parking” signs. Illegally parked vehicles may be ticketed or towed, police said.
Anyone whose vehicle is towed should use the county’s online portal to check the status and location of the vehicle. Police said the portal is updated in real time. People who cannot find their vehicle or need help using the portal may call the county non-emergency number at 703-558-2222.
Public safety honor guards attending the service are asked to arrive at Cherrydale Baptist Church by 9:30 a.m. and follow signs and directions from Arlington County police personnel. Honor guard questions may be sent to acpdhonorguard@arlingtonva.us.
