Good Samaritan Killed In Arlington: Police

Police said they arrested a man in connection with the slaying.

ARLINGTON, VA — Police say a man who attempted to stop someone from assaulting a woman in Arlington was killed by the man he was trying to stop, and police have made an arrest.

Police say that 27-year-old Michael Nash of Arlington was walking along the 1300 block of S. George Mason Drive around 9:2o p.m. on Thursday with a woman he knew when he began to "physically and sexually assault her," according to a report from the Arlington County Police Department.

Patricio Salazar, 54, of Arlington saw the assault and went to intervene. That's when Nash turned on him, attacking him until he fell unconscious, according to the report.

Salazar was pronounced dead at George Washington University Hospital.

Nash ran off following the attacks and then tried to steal cell phones from two people, who fought back prompting him to run again, police say. But he didn't stop there. He then allegedly robbed a third person, a woman, of her cell phone, according to police.

Police were able to develop a suspect description, and members of the Tactical Unit found Nash and took him into custody without further incident in the area of Columbia Pike and George Mason Drive, according to the report.

Nash will be charged with forcible sodomy and abduction with the intent to defile and animate object sexual penetration according to police. Additional charges are forthcoming, police said.

Salazar’s death is being treated as a homicide, which is still under investigation.

Nash is being held without bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility.
