Health Officials Lower Number Of Coronavirus Deaths In Arlington

Virginia Department of Health reports fewer total deaths in Arlington due to the new coronavirus.

ARLINGTON, VA — Last week, the Virginia Department of Health reported there was a total of 132 deaths in the Arlington Health District due to COVID-19, the disease associated with the new coronavirus. On Monday, state health officials said Arlington had 131 deaths, one less than previously reported.

A spokeswoman from the Arlington Health District confirmed that the difference was due to data cleaning by the Virginia Department of Health. The total number of COVID-19 deaths stands at 131.

There are no new cases of COVID-19 in the Arlington Health District as of Monday morning compared to Sunday, bringing the total number of cases in the health district to 2,533.

In the health district, there are currently 421 hospitalized patients.

As of Monday, there are 66,102 total cases statewide, according to data reported by the Virginia Department of Health. In Virginia, there have been 1,853 coronavirus-related deaths to date. There are currently 6,435 hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

There have been 17 coronavirus outbreaks in the Arlington Health District as of Monday, with 543 cases related to an outbreak. There have been 12 outbreaks at long term care facilities, two outbreaks at a congregate setting and three outbreaks in health care settings in Arlington. There have been 173 reported coronavirus cases in Arlington health care workers.

On Monday, Virginia health officials reported 24,340 COVID-19 tests have been taken in Arlington, with a 5.0 percent positivity rate. Statewide there have been 788,865 COVID-19 tests taken, with a 5.8 percent positivity rate.

Globally, more than 11.4 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 534,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Monday morning. In the United States, more than 2.8 million people have been infected and over 129,000 people have died from COVID-19.
