Incredible Timelapse of the Marine Corps Marathon Sunday Shows Thousands of Runners
Arlington residents placed in the top three for both the men's and women's divisions.
A total of 30,000 runners were sweating it out on an unseasonably warm late October Sunday during the 41st annual Marine Corps Marathon in Arlington and D.C., and to get a true scope of just how large the event is, you have to watch the timelapse video below posted by the U.S. Marines on their official Twitter account.
A Kansas resident won the men's marathon and a Virginia resident won the women's race. Samuel Kosgei, 32, from Junction City, Kansas won with a time of 2 hours, 23 minutes and 52 seconds. Kosgei is an Army specialist and won the 2014 Marine Corps Marathon. An Arlington resident, 31-year-old Desta Beriso Morkama, finished just 21 seconds behind Kosgei.
Meanwhile, 45-year-old Perry Shoemaker from Vienna, Va. took home the top prize for the women's division with a time of 2 hours, 51 minutes and 47 seconds. Another Arlington resident, 25-year-old Nicole Irving, finished third in the race.
