Lack Of Cash Sends Robber Fleeing In Arlington: Police

The man was armed with a knife and approached a parked vehicle demanding cash on Wednesday, police say.

ARLINGTON, VA — A would-be robber armed with a knife in Arlington was foiled when he heard the magic words: we don't have any cash.

Police were called to the 2600 block of 12th Street S in the Columbia Heights neighborhood at around 11:10 p.m. on July 12 to a report of an attempted armed robbery, according to a report from the Arlington County Police Department.

"The victims were inside a parked vehicle when an unknown male suspect approached them on foot, displayed a knife and demanded cash," the report states. "When the victim’s advised they did not have any cash, the suspect fled the scene."

Police set up a perimeter, but couldn't find the suspect.

Police describe him as a black man 30 to 40 years old with a skinny build. He was wearing a red shirt and dark shorts.
