Liberty Tavern Provides a Feeling of Comfort
Friendly, experienced service staff is truly impressive.
On the corner of Wilson Boulevard and North Irving Street, a historic brick building endures proudly. The Liberty Tavern stands tall with two stories — a bottom level with a bar and lounge area, and the upstairs dining level. Surprisingly, the “comfortable ambience” that the website boasts can be experienced throughout the sizable restaurant.
The paintings on the wall of times past represent an old-fashioned feeling that is shockingly not indicative of the overall feeling. The modern feeling of their low couches in their corner “lounge” is balanced with the traditional family-style long table that runs through the center of the bar area, leaving a more neutral feeling that is sure to pass the tests of time.
Dark wood and coffee colors feel more like home than any other Clarendon bar. Rather than neon furniture that you only would find in “the latest” hot spot, their colors are reminiscent of the home you visited growing up that looked like it was designed for classy adults, but comfortable for family members of all ages and background. Their warm lighting provides a feeling of comfort not found in any sports bar or dance club. The illumination is dim enough to be romantic, but bright enough to keep you from squinting at the menu.

Yet, it isn’t the colors or lighting that gives the customers the most notable feel-good feeling. The service at The Liberty Tavern is truly impressive. They clearly value keeping a service staff that is not only experienced, but friendly. You can count on the waiters and bartenders to greet you and promptly offer you a drink upon arrival. Their ability to keep up with their customers is particularly impressive given that the establishment is often overcrowded.
The crowds are the one major downfall of The Liberty Tavern. It is hard to maintain that “at home feeling” when you are staring down someone, praying they are about to relinquish their spot at the bar. Then again, if you have a staff capable of handling the mid-late week rush, your complaints about the crowds are likely going to be drowned by the third drink that is placed in your hand right after you complete your second.

No need to click your heels three times, Dorothy. Just pull up a bar stool, make friends with the other people at the oversized tables, and don’t forget that the person serving you with the level of attention expected of loved ones isn’t actually your mom … this person needs to be tipped.
