Man Impersonating Police Officer Tries to Lure Woman Into His Car in Arlington

Incident took place late Saturday night in the Ballston area.

A man impersonating a police officer pulled a woman over and then tried to lure a woman into his car on the pretense of “taking her into the police station,” according to a news release from Arlington County Police Department. The Arlington County Police Department Homicide/Robbery Unit is investigating the incident.

At approximately 11:35 p.m. Saturday, a 31 year old female victim was driving in the Ballston area when the suspect vehicle pulled behind her and activated a red rotating dashboard light. The victim pulled her vehicle over in the 4000 block of N. 11th Street and was approached by the subject on foot who displayed a badge. The suspect demanded the victim to exit her vehicle and to accompany him to the police station. When the victim claimed she wanted an officer in uniform to respond to the scene, the suspect fled.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6’0” tall and 200 lbs. He was wearing a faded black winter coat and blue jeans at the time of the incident.

The Arlington County Police Department recommends that if citizens are unsure of the vehicle initiating your stop to contact the non-emergency line and confirm that the traffic stop in your location is legitimate.

The incident remains under investigation by the Arlington County Police Department Homicide/Robbery Unit.
